Here Are 4 Ways To Keep Your Flooring Mats In Their Place

It is common to see door mats move around in entrances. This is especially true if a large rug has been placed on top. This guide will explain how to stop rugs slipping on carpet or any kind of internal flooring. We’ve compiled four options to stop your door mats from sliding onto concrete floors or carpet. You can follow our easy guide to prevent mats from moving across carpet and other floor surfaces.

Why does my mat or rug keep shifting?

Logo mats and rugs that are placed on top of carpets can move and become sloppy due to the carpet pile below. Because carpet isn’t a hard surface, it will be possible for someone to walk on your mat or rug and cause the carpet pile below to move. This means that the matting above won’t hold its place. No matter the size of the rug or mat, it can be moved regardless of its weight. Also, smaller mats tend to be more difficult and are susceptible to drifting. We’ll look at some solutions.

Stop mats falling

If you follow the tips below, this will prevent mats and rugs being moved around on your property.

1 – Quality of flooring mats and rubber backing

Before we can talk about non slip mats that you can use to reduce displacement, it’s important to assess the quality of the mat as well as the backing. Unfortunately, this is where most problems can begin.

Cheaper products may have a light backing that could increase roaming risk. Floor mats that are less mobile are usually heavy-duty and rubber-backed using nitrile. This rubber is highly popular in industrial and commercial settings. This backing is flexible, robust and will not move or creep when placed. Borders stay flat and will not curl or flicker at edges. You can machine wash these items and they will still return to their original flat condition.

2- Mats or rugs on hard floors

To prevent any movement, you should carefully consider your floor type when shopping for mats. These made-to-measure products will be tailored to your floor. If you have carpet, a full gripper nose would be required and for flat floors, a flat lip would be recommended. Again, the backing should always be rubber. Most commercial manufacturers will use rubber when manufacturing.

3- What’s lurking under your mats?

We also find it problematic that when floor mats are purchased, they are often rolled out immediately and then placed in the designated area. If this area has not been cleaned, any dirt, dry dust, or flecks of gritty that may have accumulated under the mat could cause extreme wandering. To prevent entry mats or rugs slipping on carpet, we always recommend thoroughly cleaning the area before placing them.

4- Use underlay to stop rugs from sliding on carpet

We recommend buying non slip underlay for your doormat if you have tried all the other options. There are two types: one is for carpet and another for hard areas.

  • Grip tape and grip underlay can either be applied to mats at the back to allow them to be placed on to the carpet.
  • Sticky pad underlay is available to make anti-slip flooring for hard or tiled surfaces.

Position the tape or pads at the back of the mat. Then, place the desired section of hard floor or carpet on top.
